If you've ever met Joann,  I'm sure she brought a smile to your face.  She's full of life, expressing bold enthusiasm as well as humble modesty.  Many who work as volunteers accept and treat others with compassion and Joann demonstrates this fully.

Born in New York, this Queensborough girl graduated at age 16 and went to work in Manhattan.  Seven years later she moved to Washington, DC, where she began her career in human resources and law firm administration.  Memories of living in DC during the Watergate era make her smile and laugh as she recalls the national news being her local news.

Joann visited Arizona in the mid-1970’s and planned to move out West permanently.  She arrived in Phoenix in 1980 where she managed a group home for adolescent girls.  Her quick humor and savvy background made it easy for her to respond to the needs of these girls.  Joann has a natural ability to communicate with ease and to find humor in life’s challenges.

When Joann moved permanently to Prescott she managed three semi-independent living apartments, volunteered with the developmentally  disabled and eventually became co-director of the Prescott Special Olympics. Combining her HR skills with social services, she found an outlet to give back and continues to do so today.

While in Phoenix, Joann and her father first experienced Unity at Unity of Phoenix and found the message refreshing, upbeat and comfortable. Once back in Prescott, she again attended Unity where she appreciates the ongoing opportunities for growth.   Joann finds the Women’s retreats, many speakers, Rev. T’s messages and the Spirit Groups to be inspirational. One such group, discussing Emmet Fox book Sermon on the Mount, had a significant effect on Joann.  She speaks of the process we are shown in Unity to surrender to what is inside, deprogramming and the transformative experience.  It changed her life.

A person to never be bored, she is an avid reader, loves scrapbooking and card making, travel, her life at Unity and growing her doggie business, Joann is always ready to keep learning!

Joann is a weekly office volunteer, helping Candy with bulletins and more.  She loves preparing the chair-pockets in the Sanctuary and to her this is a “time of quiet reflection and prayer."  She helps the Green Team and assists in Fellowship after services on Sunday’s where she loves to extend a warm welcome to everyone.

Additionally, she is involved in:

  • Women’s group activities
  • Annual Women’s Retreat
  • Unity Annual Picnic!
  • TLC team

She assists everywhere and whenever she can.  While maintaining part time employment, she is building her doggie sitting business – did I mention she is highly energetic!  So many outlets for her love and helping hands.  We are so very grateful to Joann.  Her hugs are freely given, and laughter is sure to follow.
